A site featuring Giant Sequoia, Coast Redwood, Dawn Redwood. Verified occurrence recorded by Redwood World. There may not be much left of Wallingford Castle itself, but the marvellous and tranquil castle gardens more than make up for the lack of stonework. As well as the two large Giant Redwoods in the gardens (and several just oustide it) there is a superb young Wellingtonia in the middle of the lawn. There are two large Coast Redwoods inside the park, and a young one can also be found in All Hallows Churchyard which is just outside the Castle Gardens wall. It is rather hidden among other trees, but no doubt in time it will come to dwarf them, just like its Giant Redwood cousins. Common Names and Latin Name

Redwood species here
Native to the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, giant sequoias were introduced to Britain in the 1850s during the Victorian plant-collecting era. They are the world's most massive trees by volume and have thrived in the UK's mild, wet climate, often growing faster than in parts of their native range. Many Victorian-era plantings now rival mature specimens in California.
